Star Gazing?

I just acquired a new young ball python. He is normal colored. He came from a very neglectful home and got him when his owner went to jail. He was kept in a tank that I set up for the guy with the right heat and everything but I am not sure how the upkeep was on that. I set it all up about 3 months ago. I have had him in my care now for about 7 hours and he has spent most of his time with his head straight up. He is at about a 45 degree angle up and he will sit in one spot of about 20 minutes and then move around a bit and go back into that same position. He has no discharge or anything coming from his nose. Any suggestions or guesses on whats going on?

I would guess it's his way of checking the place out. I know corn snakes go up all the way when looking around sometimes, so he might be doing that.

Keep an eye on him though. 7 hours isn't much time for him to explore if he's a more out going individual.

I would just keep a close eye on him. He could just be checking the place out like Shenzi said, but it never hurts to keep watch.

If you don't see any discharge and don't hear any weezing, I wouldn't worry too much.

thats prolly the beginning of an RI. pull him out and hold him up to ur ear. u shouldnt hear anything but i bet ull hear a slight popping or bubbling. if so its time for a vet.

you dont want to see discharge or excessinve drool, that just means the RI is full blown. u always want to catch RI's as soon as u can

Based on the history of neglect I would like others who have posted suspect he has an RI or the makings of one.

I would agree with the others that have posted. Star gazing will last for hours in one position without moving.
