    Breeder male died...Now what?

I have read that you can not introduce a new male into a group of breeding females. My male died and now Im left with the 4 females. Is there any way to introduce a male or will they always kill it? I hate to feed off the group because they have been great producers. Thanks in advance

Any babies in the group? if so hold back a male to become the new breeder, I have read stories of introducing a new breeder successfuly, but I don't think that's typical.

One of my breeder groups killed off 1 of the females for some reason, vicious lil buggers.

    Re: Breeder male died...Now what?

you will be wasting time and supplies really if you do anything other then feed them off and start over. You can do what lovelace said and hold back a male child, but with the amount of time that takes, and the fact that your breeders are probably already a few months old, it just wouldn't be very productive. feed them off and set up new.

    PS
This is one of the reasons you are always better off with a 1.2 group then a 1.4 group. If the male dies you only mess up 2 breeder females

Thanks for the input. I am going to let them finish raising up the babies in the group and feed them off. I typically have 1.2 groups but this group was given to me by a friend and they are producing like machines. This might be a blessing in disguise because I cant keep up with these guys and im getting over run! LOL

    Thanks again

Can you have a male in a container for say 5-7 days, then introduce the females into his container? I was thinking maybe since it wasnt the females colony they would try to adapt with male.

    Re: Breeder male died...Now what?

I have found that putting male and females together at younger age is the only way. Once they reach adult hood mine get very tempermental and have attacked other males or females. You could raise up one of the males or just raise up another 1.2 breeding group. It takes time to do it that way, but always an option.

You may be able to introduce a new male as long as it's fairly young and a bit smaller than the females, we've had luck with that in the past.
