Calico and Pastel Calicos after 1st shed

Well i haven't been hitting the best odds with my calico clutches this year but i'm very happy with the ones i've hatched. Here is a few pics i took this morning right after there first sheds. I have 2 more large clutches, 11 and 13 eggs to go so i'm hoping for some better odds on these. These are from VPI Calico/Sugar male x Pastel and Normal. Let me know what ya think?

    Pastel Calico VPI line

    VPI line Calicos

Here's a pic of the first Pastel Calico of the season..3 sheds and several meals.

    Thanks for looking!

    Nice snakes.

Question for you, I noticed that you specify "VPI line". I assume this is because you take pride in the fact that you have a snake from VPI, and that you feel VPI makes "higher quality" animals?
"line" is just another word for selective inbreeding, where the breeder sees something they like so "keeps it in the family" so as to keep these unique features in the offspring, correct?

Re: Calico and Pastel Calicos after 1st shed

To best answer your question is that there are a few different lines of Calico or Sugar, for instance Flora and Fauna, Snakekeeper Sugars, etc. The VPI line was established by them from wild lines to my knowledge so the offpspring didn't come from another breeder..making them VPI line animals. When Pastels first made there appearance there were several breeders makeing there own line of them as well..Nerd lemons, graziani, bell, etc. It isn't a point of "pride" to list them as such, it's just labeling them as what they are. They are most likely all different variations of the same gene like lesser/butter or black pastel/cinny but even still they kept seperate to a degree and labeled as such.

Hot hot hot!! Plain calicos don't do much for me, but I'm amazed at how extreme pastel calicos look. Definitely greater than the sum of their parts IMO.

A pastel calico is definitely at the top of my "must have" list.

    Congrats on your results.
