Hi!
Hello! My girlfriend and I started with reptiles about a year ago when I bought my first snake (red tail boa... I was told it may be a hypo but I don't really know how to tell) and then she wanted her own snake so we got her a normal ball python.. Who is now a light normal? If that means anything..but now we want to try breeding snakes and we are thinking of breeding her normal female.. But we don't know what to buy to breed with it.. We would LOVE a bumble bee but we would settle for anything.. So what are some cheaper morphs we could but to try and breed with a normal to get a morph?
Sorry for being a n00b..

First off, welcome to ball-pythons.net and I hope you enjoy it here. Second, if you are looking into breeding, I would suggest you really research it first. Cheap morphs to start off breeding are pastels, yellowbellies, spiders, possibly mojaves, pinstripes, and bees. There are some others, but I can't think of them right now. If I were you I would just save and buy the bee, you would be happier in the long term.

We are most deff gonna do a lot of research before getting the animals.. But if I get a bee and breed it with a normal wouldn't that produce darker bees? And more normals? I'm just starting to learn any of this so sorry if I sound dumb.. And also we read that you have the keep the eggs right side up while transferring them to the incubator? Is that true?

Hi and welcome! A book that I swore by for a long long time was "The Complete Ball Python" by Kevin McCurley. He is the owner of NERD. I found that book was very informitive, and has a whole section about genetics that is an easy read. I have a copy that I would be happy to loan out to you, if need be.
Also, the Morphs and Genetics session here in the forum is very very helpful. Happy Breeding!

If you get a bee and breed it to a normal you would not get all normals, your odds would be more bees, pastels, spiders, and normals. Also, it really depends on how dark or bright your normal is as to whether or not it would make your bees a darker color, and that still is no guarantee they would be dark just because your normal is. As for the eggs, yes, you can not turn them on their side or flip them, you have to set them exactly how they are laid. And don't worry about sounding dumb, we all sound dumb when we first start, ha ha. If you have any more questions just ask.

Is it better to have a bee male or bee female? Cause our normal is female and if that's not 'genetically' good we may just wait till she's mature and try our luck with just breeding normals.. And also... What are the odds of a morph or hypo or het coming from two normals? Or is there any chance at all?
