would this work?
Would this work for holding my weaned rats until they are fed or killed off?

I just want to check before I go out and buy it and end up with a rat problem again

In my honest opinion, I wouldn't even try it. They would most likely chew out very quickly, then you would have a rat problem.

Yard sales are fantastic! I find such great deals at yard sales I buy just to resell sometimes. The last one I did was a 55 gallon tank that I bought for $15 at a yard sale, with a working filter, a stand, tank held water, decorations and all (I tested everything when I got home). I then resold it on craigslist for $90. So even if you buy and flip, it is worth it most of the time, if you have the patience.

I actually bred in these type of bins. There pros and cons of course. It went well for a long time but I housed an obsessive chewer in the tubs and she went through two drawers. Weaners, grow outs and sometimes even breeding groups did well as long as they had some form of entertainment (untreated pine block and cardboard products), the numbers were kept appropriate and food and water is available at all times. Smell and sanitation were a bit tricky with these tubs...I had to drill many holes which was useless. I planned to made a screen out of hardware cloth to the fronts of the drawers to support ventilation. The humidity levels were high and becuase of my drawer design id get crud stuck on the corners.
Overall, they has a purpose and I did find them useful but the clean up was difficult due to design. I suggest finding big bins or longer ones and just using this design if you want to follow this kid of route...http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...e-Little-Space...
If you find you are up for the clean up or if you find a drawer design that is smooth and lacks nooks and crannies then maybe it would be worth while.

I have never had an issue with keeping weans and smalls in rubbermaid's I think the main reason for that is simple. I'm constantly on top of them offering food, water and a clean bin. Now in my exp chewing starts with some sub adults. When it comes to that specific set up ventilation will be a big issue.

I use Sterilite 105qt Green Latch containers. Ive got ASF's which chew on everything and i havnt had a single problem yet. I do keep a wheel in with them which does keep the occupied. I also have a bunch of toilet paper rolls which they chew on. I havnt had regular rats but the ASF's only seem to chew when they dont have anything else to do.
