Off to take my Mensa entrance exam.
IQ test, havent done one in ages. But if I get a 132 (compared to the Stanford-Binet standardized IQ exam) I can become a member and am in the top 2% IQ-wise.
Wish me luck

Re: Off to take my Mensa entrance exam.
Thanks for wishing me luck
The exam was pretty much a collection of children's games, number of coins to make up an amount, simple algebra word problems, what image is most like/unlike the first, which image is most similar to the other 3, remembering a story, what word is the most similar to the first, how would you break up a shape to make another shape, who greeted who, who is older/younger, rewrite a group of words to make a sentence and is it true or false, etc.
First test, got about 35/50 in 12 minutes (you arent expected to complete them). Second test; had to guess on a math problem (I hate percentages and it didnt translate well to a fraction), guessed on a change problem (last problem, not enough time to look at the possible answers), guessed on 3 words I was unfamiliar with, and guessed on 2 of the remembering the story they said at the beginning of the exam. But all and all I think I did fairly well, none of it was what I expected. The change problems were looking at a table saying a number of nickles/dimes/etc then stating the letter. I didnt have to do a single linear approximation, and there was no real shape pattern recognition.
Oh, and, while I do think I did well, because I guessed on a few of them I think I may have failed. If I didnt then I pity the state of humanity that would lead to anything but getting all of them right being in the top 2% intelligence-wise.

Re: Off to take my Mensa entrance exam.
Your ability to spell isnt much of an indicator of your ability to reason. There are a lot of issues with the test and it isnt much of an indicator of intelligence, so if I dont get accepted from that I will likely take a standardized IQ exam. The word knowledge section has little to do with intelligence and more to do with circumstance, as many of those words arent ones a person would come across frequently (I simply used the sound of the ones I didnt know to guess about what type of word it would be, then selected accordingly). The math section is also very circumstantial, if you know algebra and do math frequently then there is no reason it would be difficult to complete (I guessed on one because I dont use percentages frequently and the time to break them down to a simplified fraction was reducing my time).
The relation sections dont accurately test reason, either, as many of them are scientific/fashion knowledge based. The memory section is the only one that I think accurately gauges what it is designed to.
Overall I would have done better about 8 hours later, as morning isnt any longer my best time (4 years of working night shift will do that to you).

Good for you! Where did you take it, or where did you find out where to take it? I've been wanting to try to qualify for Mensa, but don't know much about doing it.

Re: Off to take my Mensa entrance exam.
Matthew go to www.mensa.org it will give you all the info you need.
Basically to join you have to have taken an IQ test and finished in the 98th percentile. I joke about it because I have been a member since I was 16. It's fun and social but really nerdy. Honestly it is great for networking and most people are very nice, however I don’t think intelligence is based on an IQ, a lot of people are smart but common sense is much harder to come by.
