Its quite simple, are you going to be using a UTH?

    Re: thermostat

that thermostat is already pre-wired.. Plug the UTH into the outlet it has, and plug the unit into the wall. Put the probe on the heat source.

Okay, here's a newbie step-by-step instruction on the Reptitherm 500R (I use one):

The unit comes with 2 plugs on the bottom. This means you can plug 2 heat sources into it. But, it can also mean that you can plug 2 or more heat sources to a multi-plug unit - like a power strip - and plug that power strip to the thermostat. The problem to this is most power strips come with a ground (3-prongs) while the 500R only has 2 prongs, so you kinda have to chop off that ground one.

Now, there is a maximum wattage that you can plug to the unit... So you can't just pile up a bunch of heaters to it!

Okay, now, the unit comes with a probe. You can put this probe on one of your heat sources - better to put in right on top of the UTH (outside the enclosure) - tape it using aluminum tape. Now, if you have more than one heat source, this probe would just measure the temps from that one heat source and turn everything plugged to the unit off once the temperature reaches the setting on the dial.

Now, when you are using both plugs to the 500R, this means that it will turn off both those heat sources when the heat source with the probe gets too hot. So, it has been my experience that having the same wattage on both plugs (if both are being used) works best.

So, when you get all that situated, plug the thermostat to the wall, play with the dial to get the temperatures you desire and you should be good to go. Okay, it takes a while to get the temperature setting correct because the dial thing doesn't say what temperature it is aiming for - it just says low to hi (or green to red). It takes about a couple hours or more of tweaking this to get stable temperatures.

    Hope this helps!

It will work on anything you can plug to it. Just make sure you don't get close to the maximum wattage allowed on that unit.

    A 500R has a maximum of 500 watts.
