    Finally!

My first litter of ASFRs! Wow...it really takes some time to get these guys to mature. Got 10 little cuties, mostly Gremlins, a couple of Pieds and a few I-don't-know-whats. Just weaned them as mom is about to have her second litter (I'm expecting a few more this time...she's HUGE)! The kids:

And the parents...2 big sweethearts! I guess I lucked out on these two...they're very laid back and had no problem with me messing with the babies (mom is the bug-eyed one):

    Thanks for looking! Jen

Once they start, its just like clockwork. Every 25 days comes a new batch. I usually wean at 18-19 days that way the mom has a couple days to rest up.

One of my females just dropped a litter on friday. It was neat coming home from work hearing some squeeking from little pinkies. She had about 10-12. Its hard to count them cause the adults are so snippy. They litterally run to bite me now.

LOL! Yeah, I bought several ASFs from a local breeder (to tide the snakes over until my pair started to breed)...one of the females was pregnant so I let her have her litter...WOW, I think she would've ripped my face off if she could! Made me appreciate my breeding pair that much more...they've had no problem with me being around the babies. In fact, I think mom might deliver tonight! She's been having contractions...I'd love to see it but I suspect she'll wait until I fall asleep.

And thanks for the wean times, Eric! I wanted to give mom a few days rest before the next litter...now I've got some exact times instead of me trying to guess... I've really enjoyed these guys...much less stink/fighting/neuroses than mice...and the snakes LOVE them.

No problem. 18 seems to work pretty well. I've even weaned them as soon as they open their eyes and they do just fine. They catch on real quick from watchin the other rats.
