Tub temps.

Alright so I went and bought an acurite thermometer and a dimmer to start setting up my tub. I got it so my little UTH was at 93. I taped it to the tub which I constructed to keep in heat and humidity. I cut a large screen portion out and did the duct tape and foil DIY over it. But my one little heat pad can't heat the tub to 80's and my room is about 74-76F. What can I do to get all my temps right? I'm thinking about trying to find another tub because this sterilite one, the one with the green handles, isn't flat on the bottom, although I don't know if that makes any difference.

How big did you make that hole? For my BRB, I just put some holes around the sides. Same for the one my spider is in.

Not big at all, I put one in the top left hand corner and one in the bottom right hand corner, the holes are probably 2 inch squares. The tub is, 26 1/2" x 16" x 6 5/8 ".

I've kept my milksnake and now my BP in plastic tubs, and when you put a heating pad/tape on the bottom of it the heat causes it to warp a little bit (mine always push upwards where the heat is). So the container you have now is probably fine.

Yeah I'm having quite a bit of trouble controlling the temps in general. The dimmer I bought is super annoying so I'm going to get a thermostat when I have money.

I just don't know how to get all the temps right, maybe 4 inch flex watt running the length of the tub but not completely in the center so the snake can still thermoregulate?

Cutting the top ruined the tubs ability to hold in heat, tubs work fantastic as they are.
Start with a fresh tub, put only enough holes in it to keep the humidity under 70% and your tub should do fine.

I use several green handled locking sterilites and have never had an issue with them, but you have to leave the lid like it comes from the store

I also never tape the uth to the tub, it's not necessary and it's a pain to clean if you do.

You found out about rheostats/dimmers like many do, they just aren't thermostats and are not a good choice for maintaining proper temps unless they are used in a temperature regulated room.

I don't have anything to drill holes in the tub, I don't think cutting a hole in the top really did anything since it is sealed off completely with tinfoil, and then the duct tape over it like in the DIY sticky. And right now the humidity in Fairbanks is less than 40 all around, and it's even lower in the house so I have to do a lot to keep the humidity up.

I will probably need to have the flex watt run the entire length because it's going to get super cold here in the winter, which is soon.

If you leave the tubs lids alone and melt holes in the side of the tub then your humidity will be whatever you want it to be no matter what the outside humidity is.
$5 for a soldering pen(possiblymore in Alaska admittedly) and put 5 holes in each side and watch how high your humidity goes.
If it's too high add a few holes, if it's too low tape over a few holes.

I'm not understanding why you would want to alter the lid?

I am a little confused here. So you cut two large holes in the lid, covered them with screen, and then covered them with aluminum foil and duct tape?

Is there any ventilation?

With tubs, we put lots of small holes on the sides of the tub. Any holes on the top will reduce the heat and humidity pretty significantly.

I make holes with a soldering iron but you could also use a drill, a wood burning tool, or a hot screw driver.

As for your temps. an ambient temp of 75* is perfectly fine if you have a hot spot in the low 90's.

No, I did this, just with a tub and there are two small ventilation holes in 2 corners, it made my humidity and ambient temps go up, but I could cover up the two wholes the same way and put the holes on the sides towards the bottom.
