"snakes don't feel pain" and "because they're cold-blooded, their blood is blue"
Yup, seriously. At my internship last summer, I was doing a presentation with a RTB, and some guy in the audience asked with a completely straight face "Well, snakes can't feel pain, right?" I was a little shocked and told him that they do and have nerve endings just like us... and he looked like he didn't believe me. And, on several occasions, I had people ask if their blood was blue Kind of scary to think of the myths that get spread around and accepted as truth. Especially something like "they don't feel pain" because it could be used as further justification to hurt and kill them
Oh yeah, and of course I've heard the "all snakes can kill you" one many, many times. All of my friends always try to tell me that ("oh, be careful if it ever stretches out next to you!!"), and my mom keeps insisting that my bp is going to escape and eat one of her cats
