How best to kill a rat...

I have three bp's but only one that tends to be very finicky with eating. Sometimes she will take f/t and then others she will wait weeks and then eat a live rat.

My question is - if I buy a live rat and offer it to her but she decides not to eat - I need an easy way to kill it so I can add it to my frozen thawed supply for another feeding day.

I am a whimp so the method needs to be very quick and painless. How do you set up a c02 chamber and how does it work??

    Thanks for any help.

CO2 idea would be the easiest. CO2 is basically suffocation by gas chamber. You take the CO2 and have a Line feeding into a container that you put the rats into.

C02 would be the best methods. There are some tutorials on this site and many videos on YouTube showing you how to set up different methods.

Now let's hear from the guys that say you should break it's neck with your bare hands and c02 is inhumane..............

Re: How best to kill a rat...

Great - thanks for the help. I will research how to build a c02 chamber.

I will only need to kill off one rat a week in the event that my female refuses that given week - I just never know when she will eat. I will simply add the fresh killed rat to my frozen collection - beats having to throw the money away.

Re: How best to kill a rat...

You could always bonk the rat. Using its tail as a handle, swing it forcefully so its head hits a hard, blunt object, such as a big rock. Do it a couple times to be sure. 99% of the time, the rat is out cold instantly, but you want to make sure you finished the job so it doesnt regain consciousness.

Its very fast and painless if done right (which isnt that hard).
