Palmolive Mite treatment????

Well i clean the tub on a daily basis completely rinse with super hot water and then new paper towel, clean the water bowl. And inspect for mites on the snake and so far i found 4 mites total and haven't seen any in a while. That's the good thing about the tub it can be totally sterilized every day so any mites i do see are removed but i haven't seen any in about 2 weeks. What do you guys think? still get the Prevent a Mite? or is this method good. BTW its the only snake in the entire house because its in quarantine at a friends house.

I'm just not sure why someone would choose to go through all of that trouble when a can of PAM will just do the job and do it RIGHT. Less work, more results.

Well I do think the P.A.M. is the best, but it doesn't hurt to hear what other options are out there.

It's not a problem to clean one 18qt tub everyday, it's just i don't want to spend the money if i don't have to. I don't have a job at the moment so i have to spend my money wisely. But since most of you guys just say go with the PAM i am going to order some. Thanks for the info.

ok I just HAD to get in on this. I got a bp from someone a while ago and I had no idea it was INFESTED with mites So I asked around and heard that the mite treatmenst you buy in the stores take forever and don't really work. So someone told me about the dish soap and betadine bath.

You get a tub and add just enough betadine to turn the water a light orangish color. You add 2-3 drops of Dawn dishsoap (what they use to clean oil off of birds, which have extremely sensitive lungs) and soak your snake for 20 minutes. While your snake is soaking, clean the tank thoroughly. Repeat the following 2 days, or until you are mite free.

This worked perfect for me and I would recommend it to any one. I have had NO mites since doing this.

And how long have you been mite free? It can take 6 weeks or longer for mite eggs to hatch and NOTHING kills mite eggs. If you don't have something on hand that will kill them you can end up reinfested quite easily. Yes, I'm sure that this betadine treatment will work well for some people, but it's more the exception then the rule. If you want to be absolutely sure you got them all, you need to use poison.

I think you're wrong about that Bill, The egg shells are pretty impermiable protect the embryo pretty well and won't soak up the poisons, the only things that I've heard of that will kill the eggs is steam or boiling water which basically just cooks them in their shell. However, if you've got poisons down that are long lasting, they'll kill the mite when it hatches. (which is why PAM is so effective, it sticks to surfaces and lasts a long long time.)

Hey, it's also not a bad idea to get into the habit of cleaning the tubs just to keep the herps in a clean environment
