Baby not moving... HELP!

Ok so you all know I've been waiting for my babies from my two normals to emerge. They started actually coming from their shells this morning YAY! All have been hanging out with their head pokig out for a couple days now, except one. My moldy boob egg. So I stuck my finger in to see if it was moving, and it wasnt moving like any of the others. So I thought maybe it might either be dead or close to with a kinked umbilical? So we removed her from her egg.....



What in the world is she as far as color goes? I really don't think she is going to make it, but god Im hoping. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. She is on damp paper towels in her own tub in the incubator. Anything else I can do? It seems there has been quite a few breeding problems with everyone this year. I hope its not always like this

I think she just developed a little slower than your other eggs. I had "runts" in two clutches this year. Both times, they didnt move much and were a few days behind in development. If this is the case with your baby, she probably would have colored up in a few days because color comes in last. Im a little worried you did more harm than good taking her out of the egg though.

CRAP! I was worried about that. Everyone else has been moving great though, I just couldnt figure out why she would'nt be anymore? She was moving great right along with everyone, then just stopped. I just got scared and was worried she was dead.

Eggs and babies know exactly what buttons to push to make me think the worst, so I completely understand. Personally, unless I know exactly what the problem is (most on the egg, wrapped umbilicus...) Ive found it best to leave them alone. You seem to be doing everything you can though. Just make sure she stays warm and watch the humidity. Hopefully she pulls through for you.

I meant this whole time, as in today.... she was moving great up until today, just wanted to clear that up. I tried to fix it but you had already read it.

I am afraid you over reacted.

Some hatchlings appear as if they are not moving at all (looking dead) and require to be poked a little harder or with something more pointy than a finger to make them move, I had that happened with a few, when you have a dead snake in the egg you will know very fast.

Sadly by pulling it out of the egg you might have cause more harm than good.

Right now I would suggest to put him in the smallest container you have available (deli cup) to prevent him to to drag the yolk sac around too much, and make sure to keep the paper towel nice and moist, than place it back in your incubator and see if it will absorb the yolk.

Not much you can do for now.

As for the color, it is the last thing setting in in BP so this explains the strange color.

I actually noticed you had edited right after I posted. Not moving much for a day really isnt anything to worry about. Best to take it as a learning experience and hope she pulls through.

Can you either put her back in the egg, or make a "false egg" from a deli cup with moist paper towels? I'm not an expert by any stretch, but that seems to be the advice in similar situations... unfortunately I agree with the other post, and think he/she just needed some more time to develop! Mine have been hatching all week, and it will be 4-5 days between the first pipper and last emergence - so they can develop at different rates, especially if your heat is uneven like mine was.

I fear she is already dead. Everything I've read in books and online said that they all hatch within 24 to 48 hours, so thats what lead to me concern. I feel horrible now, but I paniced and didnt know what else to do at that point. I guess as a beginner, everyone makes their mistakes and learns the hard way sometimes. Hopefully, next time will go better knowing the things I know now. Thank you everyone for all the help. Sometimes it helps to kind of just talk things out, even though you know you were the one in the wrong. So thanks again.

Its alright. Unfortunately, it seems (at least my snakes) never read the manual and seem to do things on their own schedule. They've given me heart attacks multiple times. Hopefully she pulls through.
