Did anyone in NJ loose their ball?

This is a link from a news story from NJ.com. Someone found a ball python in their garage.. it was not their snake and they didn't panic and kill it. The police responded in a wonderful way.. they are housing the snake in their headquarters until the owner claims it. The enclosure was set up by a local zoo for them:

Kudos to that police officer in the way he responded, the way he's taking care of it, and saying that he'll take care of it if the owners don't come forward. This is one case that was handled very well.

However, some of the comments on there are just plain wrong. I wish people would fact check before posting something online about how a four foot ball python has totally eaten a human baby.

Unfortunately, no one will probaly come forward to claim it as they probaly let it go on purpose! I hope I am wrong and it just escaped!

While it is great that it is being taken care of, I wonder how good the care actually is. Tank is fine, but a BP doesn't need bright lights as we all know, which makes me think they are using heat lamps, not belly heat. Still better than a cold garage, though!

I noticed the comments too; but some informed people did respond and the comments after that seemed to calm down a little. What can you do though? Most people are totally ignorant about snakes.

that's good to hear that their offering to find the owner and it didn't go directly to the zoo. The sad part and probably the reality is that it probably was let loose. If it does end up at the Turtle Back Zoo which is a small zoo, they have a nice small reptile section.

I get aggrivated when people post comments like that. That's just like when I posted pics of my bp on facebook. People were making stupid assumptions based on moronic hearsay.

I refuse to click on the link, since I know the stupid comments will raise my blood pressure... but from what you're all saying, it sounds like the cops handled this well! Funny how a cop from NJ knows what to do with a snake, whereas those Florida cops I posted about (long time ago, from a Cops episode) were clueless - and bashed a harmless rat snake over the head, for daring to be OUTSIDE a woman's home. You'd think a cop from the southeast would know better, considering they actually have wild/native reptiles in their region. So kudos to the NJ police, and I hope they find his original owner (or a good new home).
