I was wondering, If you put the heat pad, heat tape, or whatever, inside the enclosure, do you HAVE to tile the rest of it? or can you just put the heat pad in there, tape it down, tape the thermostat probe down, and then cover it with paper towels/newspaper?
No you can not use Tape alone as main holder. If tape is used you need to seal it so it can never come undone which is done with Tile(peel n stick) or hot glue.

I use hot glue as its non toxic and dries instantly.

Okay, so if you are using a radiant heat panel, heat tape, ect, you have to tile or stick it with something besides tape

BUT, if you are using a heat pad which already sticks amazingly, can you just do that and cover up with newspaper?

There is a MASSIVE zoo med heat pad at my local reptile store and im sure it will be good for a 4 x 2 x 2, So I may just get that and skip the tape part

    Thanks!

I dont recommend buying ones that are peel and stick for inside cages. They are extremely hard to get off. And when you do get it off the heating coils inside are sometimes damaged. I always recommend ultratherms as its the same as flexwatt just in plastic for water proofing.
