Sexing, Feeding, and Daytona

All my hatchlings have shed, but so far, none of them has eaten. We were too chicken to leave the mouse in overnight. We're going to do that next feeding opportunity (tomorrow) and see if we'll have some success this time. The mice is starting to become pets!

We're also too chicken to try popping the snakes so we don't know what gender we got here.

So, I was thinking, Daytona expo is coming up tomorrow. I think this sounds like a really crazy idea, but I was thinking of taking the 3 hatchlings to Daytona to have somebody there check them out and sex them. I'm an hour away from Daytona so the babies will be traveling in pillowcases for that far which could prove stressful.

Very bad idea? Hmmm... do they even let us bring our pets into the show? And if they do, will someone there do it for free?

I was planning on taking them to the vet after they've eaten at least 3 times for sexing and general inspection. I can wait but it would be cool if I won't have to.

I'm going to be there this weekend! I can't wait; even though that I'm not going to be buying anything. Take them to my distributor: Ben Siegel Reptiles and ask them. Ben or Brian will def. help ya out, and if they say no (even though its doubtful) tell them that Shannon said pretty please.

I don't know about the whole pillow case idea. I would get a plastic sterlite tub, drill some holes and put some substrate in it with the water dish. They will def. be more comfortable for the drive.

I do not know if they allow other pets there, but if you go to the website and email the guy, hes pretty good at getting back to you.

I would leave them at home. The olny way you can get them in is to have a vendor bring them in or sneek them in. Local pet shop might sex them for ya.

Animals cannot be brought to the show unless you are a vendor there.

Only exhibitors are permitted to bring animals to the Expo.

Try finding someone local to you that is willing to teach you how to sex snakes that's your best option.

Still planning on being at the expo minus the pets. It's my first time at a show!

I think I'll just wait for the vet visit.

What have you tried offering the babies? I had really stubborn babies in my bunch this year but I gave each of them a live hopper mouse and every one of them ate without any qualms whatsoever. Live hoppers I wouldn't be so worried about leaving in a snake's enclosure overnight. It's the adults that would make me hesitant.

I tried the ASF hopper at first. When that didn't take, I bought mouse hoppers from the pet store. They didn't take that either.

But, I've only been keeping the rat/mouse in the tub for no more than 30 minutes.

I'll try the overnighter on the next go round.

I was just chatting with wolfy and I may not have to worry just yet. I have 2 45/46 grammers so I was thinking I might have to assist feed soon if they don't eat.

They shed early last week, so it's been a week and half or so after they shed.
