It's very rare in my opinion for the snake to do it all and just drop it and forget it unless spooked. Sometimes they will drop the rodent and go exploring, then come back and eat as well. How long did you leave the rat in with the snake?
Yea I lined the feeding box up with Paper Towels and when he struck he got some of the Paper Towel with the Rat and my dad pulled it out from under him so he could just eat the Rat and not some Paper Towel to that might of spooked him. It only took about 5 Sec for him to strike at the Rat after it was in there and then we left him in there for probably 10 or so minutes after he was done killing it. My dad also picked it up with tongs and he waived it in his face trying to get him to eat it.
