Looks like a Dekay's snake (brown snake). Storeria dekayi
Not a baby. From the coloring, at least a yearling--it's hard to judge size in the pics. Dekay's are tiny snakes, a newborn can curl up on a penny. They eat slugs, worms, and other small invertebrates.
Entirely harmless--a very common snake that people don't see very often because it's so small and secretive.
