Folks, I know it's different...and much tweaking is needed yet. I'll get onto the color scheme ASAP today to get it back to our more muted hues.

The emotes are still there in the database...if you know the code for it, you can type it in. OR...there is a button under the reply box called "Go Advanced". That will take you to a new box that looks pretty similar to what you're used to seeing, with all the emotes and everything. At the moment, it's just a "quick reply" box that is showing up as default. I'm sure that's one of many tweaks we'll be working on.
