Another Rant
So I went to a pet shop in my area called The Kennel Shop a few days ago and I was poking around their reptile section when I saw that they had a ball python. The snake had a HUGE water dish and a HUGE half log hide. Normally, this wouldn't have really bothered me had the snakes neck not been the size of a straw. I mean like a McDonalds straw, not the big BK straws. It was teenier than any hatchling I've ever seen. It was long though, as least a foot long. A worker saw me and was like, "We're having a special on reptiles if you're interested!" I was like "I'm really not." And left. They were charging $99 for an emaciated normal ball python! Come on people! DO SOME RESEARCH

Re: Another Rant
It's the sad state of most pet shops that aren't specialty shops these days. They'll have starving, mite infested animals with information like "only needs to be fed once a month" and such. I have a friend who knows someone that keeps their ball at room temps! (I don't know the person otherwise I'd have a word or two...)
Edit: Also something to consider: The average person doesn't think of researching pets when they go to get an animal, just because they expect the store to have all the information they need. Sure, the snake may look sick, but if they say it's healthy enough to go home then why not believe them? Again, it's just a sad state of lack of motivation to double check info

Re: Another Rant
I saw a normal ball at a pet store by me that I almost bought. He/she looked sooo sad. There were no hides, just a small water bowl and some fake leaves, way too much lighting and the poor thing looked so dehydrated, very wrinkly skin and stuck shed all over. It is an adult, which is the first time I have seen an adult bp at a pet store. I saw it a few weeks ago and have thought about it every day. The original price on it was $190! Ah! Then I went in again a few days ago and it was marked down to $100. I know that is still too much, but I feel so bad for the poor thing, I may end up getting it next time I go in there.

I wouldn't by it if I were you. I understand the desire of trying to rescue the snake from bad conditions but you will be supporting them selling ball pythons by purchasing one from them. The best you can do is pray no one else buys it and they stop trying to sell them.
