What kind of pets do bloods make?
Ive always loved the way bloods looked, but have never talked to anyone knowledgeable about them.
Im currently keeping retics and burms and love how after a few weeks of hand "training" they are very handleable and "predictable" with their behavior and make really good pets.
Are bloods the same way? Im dying for a borneo black... but im sure alot of people are lol.
anyways, whats your opinion on them?
Retics: 0.1 Sulawesi Lady 0.1 Bali Yellow Head Goldielocks 1.0 Super Tiger Shere Khan 1.0 Purple Tiger Lucien
Pythons: 0.1 Coastal Carpet Tinkerbell 0.1 Black Blood Toothless Boas: 1.0 Surinam RUCA
Dont forget 2.2.2 Cresteds 0.0.2 Sulcatas and 0.0.1 Desert Hariy!!!

Re: What kind of pets do bloods make?
Same idea! They tend to be a little nippy as babies but calm down pretty quick as they get some size. I've yet to be bit by one of ours, while I've been tagged a couple times by our ball pythons. If you can handle retics, bloods should be a piece of cake for you.
Oh and I think you may mean a Sumatran black.

IMO
P.Curtus/ sumatran blacks are thought the most placid followed by P.Brietensteini/ Borneos and lastly P.Brongasmai/ the red type animals...Like locales of ratsnakes they have different demeanors..IMO again..
Many of the Borneos and blacks hatched by us have never bitten..When tense they could/have sprung out of hand like a spring..But pick'em back up and their fine..
The 2.0 Borneo blacks on k/s were produced here and how they got renamed is beyond me...
See the Love my Borneos thread for additional intake..

Re: What kind of pets do bloods make?
my 4 year old son holds the blood i got and never been bitten by it. wish i could say the same about any of the other pets we have.(well he aint been bitten by the Burmese or green tree pythons, or Goliath bird eater either but he aint allowed to hold them)
it actually surprised me he has held it so many times and it aint bitten him he's not the slowest moving person around. so to me says allot of how mean that bloods are has got to be wild caught. even my sons mini pincher has bitten him cause how he acts around it. as does pretty much any other pet we got. he just can't move slowly(classified as a runner by his adhd doc so he stresses allot of animals out with his fast movements.) well all the other pets but the blood python. but then again i get it out and hand it to him.
i just like to argue and get you riled up dont take it to mean i dont like you or what I'm agueing about. I'm doing it for the joy of argueing dont anybody like good old fashion debates

Re: What kind of pets do bloods make?
We have had hit and miss luck with the red bloods. Out of 3.2 Red blood pythons two of the males have been handfuls. Now granted both males came to us as yearlings, so they were probably someone elses problem child to begin with. We actually have a 6'6" 32 lb blood female that doesn't even strike her F/T dinner. She just crawls over and picks it up by its head and starts to swallow.
On the other hand we had a pair of STP's that were the devil incarnates. Got tagged by both several times. Again these were yearlings being sold by people that did not breed them.
I think bloods just need to be handled regularly from the time they hatch to have good personalities.

Re: What kind of pets do bloods make?
Mine (P. Curtis) scared the hell out of me when I first got it. It struck wildly when I opened the bag and made a bid for freedom across the floor.
So I went out and got a pair of welding gloves and felt very silly when I took it out for the first time after letting it settle in for a couple of weeks. It was a little softy and has been ever since. Just treat it with the respect it deserves, scoop it from behind with confidence and don't wave your hands or face around in front of it and you'll be fine.

oh i just got to say person i got my blood off of claimed it was mean had struck at him and hissed at him allot and acted like it was mean as can be. but like said above my 4 year old holds his blood python once per week. and never been bitten or even hissed at oh and it is a red blood. but when we got it from him it was about a month or 2 old he had it in a 20 gallon long breeder tank he called it no hide(he did have a bunch of moss like stuff balled up in the corner) i just recently moved her into a larger hide (had an old exo Terence hide that came with the cage i bought for my ccb Tokay but the blood grew to where it started to raises up when she took a breath so figured it was time to get a new one
not sure if this goes for most but I've had no problem picking mine up from front scoping but like others have said dont be scared they can sense the fear. (granted mine is only right around a year and I've had her Lil over 8 months. so it's still on the small side
