Yes you may have to solder some holes in the lid.

What kind of substrate are you using?

Just add more holes, if you don't want to change your liners to aspen. 10-15 holes in the lid to start should do the trick. I'm in a hunid state to begin with each of my 28qt tubs have over 300 holes in them

I just had the same problem on a 6qt tub that I had 5 holes on each side and the lid. I made it 9 holes in the lid(3 rows of 3) about 1/4" in diameter and that did the trick.

I had same problem. Mine would stay at 83 percent. Didnt matter with Aspen, Newspaper or paper towels. I even had a lid with holes and plenty of holes on the side. Nothing mattered.

I then researched here and was told I was golden. That having 83 percent humidity would not be a problem and that I didnt need to do anything unless the humidity got so high that there was condensation showing up on the tub.

When I needed to lower humidity though I had to turn on my ceiling fan. That was the only thing that lowered it. Extra holes, holes in the top different substrate nothing else would lower it.

I currently maintain 73 percent with my fan set at low, but I kept it for weeks and weeks at 83 and based on what I was told here, it would have been fine.

Re: My humidity just wont go down 80%!

I know up here in Ohio if I try to just use the hole punching method in the tubs I end up having to tape most shut sometime during the fall and open them up in the spring. Now I just use a humidifier and dehumidifier. Have them set up on humidistats that turn the humidifier on at 50% then back off at 60% and a dehumidifier that turns on around 75% and turns off at 65%. Now year around the humidity in my snake room is constant. Granted if you only keep a couple snakes and don't have a whole room dedicated to them taping holes shut during some seasons and opening them in others might be a better way to go. Granted the humidity up here next to the lake is over 80% on some days outside and under 10% during the coldest part of winter.
