    Re: A Nice Fat Snake

mine have been eating live, one is 7 yrs old and the other is 4 yrs old and they have never struck at me or shown any signs of aggression, i do give them the occasional prekilled of course, but they are really nice, it mostly depends on the snake, all are different, but as for getting them fat, just feed them about twice a week, some large but not to big for it for two months and then start cutting down, that how i did it, when i got them they were very unhealthy and now they are perfect and in great health

    Re: A Nice Fat Snake

Our male [10 years old] only takes live and he's not aggressive. He only bit my bf once and that was 9 years ago when he was a baby and missed the mouse my bf was feeding him and he immediately let go and then waited for the mouse to actually be put in the tank. He's full grown but a strict mouser so we feed him two adult mice, the largest the store has.

Our female [estimated to be 2 years old] takes f/t and she's not aggressive either. She was a rescue so I didn't have her when she was little so I can't tell you much about her when she was little. Though I do know the previous owner tried to feed her a live rat that the place we got her from thought was too big for her because her tail is very scarred and significantly shorter than it should be.

If you feed live prey you MUST watch them feed because the live prey can fight back sometimes. So far I've never seen a mouse fight back but you can never rule it out. My bf has had a rat fight back and had to intervene, but now our male won't take rats.

What you feed [f/t or live, rats or mice] doesn't necessarily effect the temperament of the snake. Some snakes are mean, some are nice and some don't care so long as they can hide somewhere.
