    Is my Amarali too skinny?

Amarali are supposed to be fed conservatively, but I always worry that my 07 male isn't getting enough food. I feed him one small (very small, like jumbo mouse sized) rat every 7 days. He's about 5 feet long.
    Here are some crappy pics:

Looks healthy to me. I'd bump him up to medium rats. My 5' female is on large rats now, every 10 or so days.

Re: Is my Amarali too skinny?

He looks great to me too... good job with him! Boas are a little thinner through the body than BPs, so they always look a little anorexic next to them

I agree with the above poster though, you could probably bump him up a size, and maybe move the feedings to every two weeks. I feed my six foot female one medium/large rat every two weeks and she does just fine.

    Hope that helps!

Is it better to serve larger meals less often, or smaller meals more often?

I think he looks just fine, but I'm of the mind that way too many people are overfeeding and killing their boas.

    Looks great! He's beautiful.

I agree, bump him up to a medium rat and he'll do just fine.

Re: Is my Amarali too skinny?

I feed 1 rat that is the same girth as the snake every 10 days. Once they start eating rats that are over 120g or so, I'll switch them to a 14 day schedule....

Very nice boa! I say he looks in top shape! Nice and lean.

Here is a nice care guide one feeding, it may answer some questions you might have:

Re: Is my Amarali too skinny?

Thanks everyone! This boa is such a sweet creature. He's got a great temperament and has never given me a single problem. I got him as a tiny little noodle and he's grown slow and steady.
I highly recommend the species to someone with a little more experience (prone to regurge) who wants a small boa.

And yeah, next to my fatty ball python (who I adore above all) the boa looks soooooo skinny!
