    PAM Question

Bleh With 8 days till leaving for college a couple mites would show up :[
    Im not a happy camper.

Anyways Ive heard you can find PAM at walmart. What section?

Ive dealt w mites b4 so I know the cleaning regimen.

My dad bought a wood/cork based tunnel for him from petsmart. And after he bought it I was like "I do not wanna put that in the tank" Call me paranoid but my unsure of being able to bake it I didnt. Can I soak it in diluted bleach?

I only found like 3 mites in his vents which I check everyday and check his eyes and under his chin. So the little suckers can't hide. Whats happening why have they all the sudden popped up ? :[ I thought this was done and over with a couple months ago :/

The only place I can think of where he got it was the wood. Everything else in his tank has been sterilized many times. And no places for them to hide.

    Re: PAM Question

How do I know whether it its just dirt/debri from the log or mites? They both look the same! But the log is so messy it is possible he is rubbing his head against it and the bark is falling on him and getting in his vents b/c he is in shed. AH idk. Any opinions?

    Re: PAM Question

    Hi,

I don't think I've ever heard that you could buy Provent-a-mite at wallmart.

Are you sure they weren't talking about PAM the cooking spray?

    Re: PAM Question

What people are buying at Wal-Mart is the Equate lice killer, which is Wal-Marts generic brand of Nix. There are always big arguments over using NIX vs. Provent-A-Mite (PAM). It basically boils down to this. NIX and PAM have the same active ingredient, permethrin. Both contain 99% "other" ingredients, which they don't have to list. PAM has been approved by the FDA as safe to use on reptiles, NIX has not, it is for humans, so no studies or tests have ever been done to determine if there are any adverse effects on reptiles. Some people use it, that is your decision...

    Re: PAM Question

Bake your log at 200 degrees in the oven for a couple of hours. It will kill mites and mite eggs. I'd also do whatever I could to brush off loose debri so that in the future you won't wonder "Is it mites or is my log shedding".
At petsmart they have a few mite treatment products, no P.A.M. but if you don't have time to wait I've been told that reptile relief on the snake works great, just that pam is perfect for the enclosure. I couldn't find reptile relief and just used pam. So far so good, but I have two snakes in shed, so I can't treat their enclosure with pam.
    Good luck.

    Re: PAM Question

I recall someone saying that you could get it at walmart, but I guess they were referring to the equivalent to nix.
I already have Natural Chemistry Reptile Spray and Jurassic mite, and even have some pest strip left over ( yes I did cut it in super tiny pieces 1cm x1cm. And put 2 of those in a tuba ware with holes in the top) I dont think I am going to use any pest strip this time around.

I have a gut feeling my log is just "shedding" on its own and I'm being paranoid. I absolutely hate logs and stuff that leave debri everywhere.

I checked his vents this morning and I found nothing. He just shed last night :] (in one piece! for the first time ever!)

I looked at some debri and it smears just like mites so I prob just found those. :/

Can I bake a cork based log?
