I dont know if different hides is really an issue. I used to keep mine in a 20g Long enclosure. Had an extra large exo terra rock hide on the warm end and a piece of PVC pipe on the cool end. He would go back and forth using both whenever he felt like it. He never seemed to just stick to one or the other.
