People pissy about off topic on pet rats

So another forum I've been on for a few months, someone brought up pet rats. Well I figured I'd say something odd and said I had 60 rats in my deep freezer next to the frozen veggies. One person made the comment of what they feed to the large snakes at the zoo but nothing further. The op came on and got pissed about what I said, saying that " this is about pet rats not feeding to snakes." I mentioned I've had gerbils before but apparently she could care less. I even sent this person an appoligy that got blown back into my face because I shouldn't be posting on anything like that if people have an issue. wth I sent back something after they replied to it saying they need to grow up and if they don't like a post to ignore it. According to the site I called every person on there ignorant and idiots. Neither of which I said, I just mentioned that people in general that don't understand the breeding and raising of rats then humanely euthanizing them instead of feeding live to a snake was better.

I'm sure the off topicness has happened many times for everyone but this is the first time I've ever seen the creator of a site stand behind someone that was rude to the person that might have said something off topic along with something that went with the topic. I know I'm ranting.

I have neighbors with pet rats. They told me the rats could kill my snakes. Then I told them that the rats fed to my snakes are prekilled. End of that story.

If it was a pet rat site, then yeah I'd say you were a little out of your element and said something you shouldn't have lol. It just sounds horrible lol. "Yeah I have about 50 dead rats in my freezer but I humanely euthanize them." I can't see how that wouldn't piss someone off that owned rats as pets. I own two males as well, but don't go signing up on furryfurryrats.com and tell them about them and my frozen rat collection.

What do you expect from that game? I got a 3 day ban for telling the game owner that all horses with HYPP should be sterilized (of course, she was wanting to breed her mare to that N/H stud that died, but commented that she was wary about owning a N/H stud).

Some people take their pets very seriously. I have 4 pet rats, but I know the difference between food and pet, but it still makes me sad if I have to feed rats off.

In my opinion you were rude first, because the poster was talking about their (assuming beloved) pets. Posting about feeding rats to your snakes was rude. It's askin to someone responding to you posting about your (again assuming) beloved pet snake with a comment about how they killed a roaming python with a shovel.

Most people with a snake tend to think of rats as "feeders", not as pets. But to someone keeping rats as pets, they are as personable as a pet dog or cat. I think they had every right to be upset with you. I'm glad you apologized, but it doesn't take away the shock and horror of you posting about killing their chosen pet species so casually.

I am not crazy about rats or mice (I breed them, have some in my freezer too and feed them off to snakes) however I have enough sensibility not to say something like that in a conversation about pet rats, but hey maybe it's just me!

I can see where the op could have been a little pissy but she should have dropped it if you apologized for "hijacking" her thread.

IMO she should probably have tougher skin.

When people call my pet store and ask if I have bunnies I always answer "Yes we do, frozen."

Gets a nice little rise out of some people.

How angry would we all get if someone came to this forum and posted about how many ball pythons they had killed recently? Pretty.
