This is my favorite keeper so far for 2010. He is out of my founding Garcia line chocolate female. His father is a pastel ivory owned by Marshall Van Thorre who hatched the clutch on a breeding loan. It was a mixed paternity clutch and he only had two yellow belly siblings. None of them look really obviously chocolate to me which got me wondering if we just missed or if yellow belly might interfere with the usual chocolate indicators. Maybe the over the top yellow pattern of the yellow belly gene negates the normal wide dark pattern in chocolate?
His siblings are my first even yellow bellies so I certainly don't have much experience with the range of what a pastel yellow belly can look like. Anyone have yellow belly chocolate or pastel yellow belly chocolate to compare? Something about the quality of his black, the speckling in his alien heads, and the flames make me hopeful but maybe I'm just seeing what I want to see.
Hoping as he grows (hasn't even had his 2nd shed) I'll see some more encouragement for my hope that this pastel yellow belly also caries the chocolate gene. Even if the combo is subtle it would sure help my breeding efforts as I love the pastel super chocolate and figure a shot for yellow belly in there too couldn't hurt. Maybe an older pastel yellow belly chocolate would look like a nice carpet python?
