    confilicting info

ok so i just went to a new store to get a mouse for my ball and i had some information that i would like to share and get some opinions on.

    1. He told me that you should never feed a snake anything over a large mouse. feeding every 3-5 days ofc.

    2. that you should have a large water dish with a heating lamp with a reflector bulb in the tank pointing at the dish.

Well first answer is he is WRONG! I feed my snakes rats and only rats. You can feed mice also if thats all they will eat.The next one is also WRONG in part. You should never place a heat lamp in the enclosure as it will burn the snake. You can place one on the lid over the water dish to help keep the humidity levels up.I just spray them when they are inshed.Next please give that person info so he/she can come here and learn the truth

This is why I LOVE petshops. They are so uninformed. The petshop is wrong.

Why did you make 2 threads asking the same things?

Never go to a pet store looking for good info about ball pythons unless you know for a fact that someone there has experience with balls. There's a wealth of info at your fingertips right now...forums, breeders, etc...

    1. It would be tough to keep retics and only feed them mice...did he specifically say ball pythons, or just snakes in general?

    2. Use belly heat. A heat lamp will dry the air. I guess if there's no other way to keep the ambient heat up...?

Okay... That snake is pretty underfed, and probably underweight. Keep doing what you're doing, because that person is clueless.
