Temp Problem,,
How r u doing guys?
I have a temperature problem with my cage,,
At the day time, the temp is perfect, the cold side about 80 and the hot side with the UTH about 91.. I use the UTH and a Lamp,,
but at night I close the lamp and keep the UTH on.. the temp on the cold side went to 76.. and the hot side stays at 88..
I noticed that my snake when i turn of the lamp at night he switch to the hot side,, but when I wake-up in the morning I find him on the cold side,, and the cold side is about 76,,
should I use a night lamp? or he just like to stay in a cold place?
iam afraid that the temp is low for him, but why he just stays in the hot side ?
thanks guys,,

Re: Temp Problem,,
You shouldn't need a heat lamp with the UTH. Your snake is just thermo regulating itself. No need to worry. He knows what he likes temp wise. As long as your hot and cold spots do not vary to extreme either way, you should be fine.

Re: Temp Problem,,
76* is a little bit cool for a cool side. Ideally, you don't want any night drop in temperatures. If you need the bulb to keep your ambient and cool side temps up, then use a red bulb or a moonlight bulb so you can leave it on 24/7.
Also, what kind of thermometers are you using? If you aren't using digital thermometers with a probe then you aren't getting an accurate enough reading. Many newbies are tricked into buying those round stick on gauges which are not accurate enough. Also, many newbies don't realize that they need a thermostat in conjunction with the UTH. If your snake is favoring the cool side, then chances are it is because the hot side is too hot, or they don't have identical hides.

first thing I'm going to do is to get an red bulb so i can leave it 24/7
also I'm using a digital thermometers.. which I think is accurate enough..
I really want to get the thermostat but they are not cheap and I waiting to get my salary so I can one..
The hot side has a hide but bigger than the cool side.. does it even makes any changes? maybe he don't big hides?

Where are your digital thermometers placed? You should at least have one digital probed thermometer placed directly over the UTH right on the glass, under the substrate. You want to measure the hottest point the snake can reach at any given time. You should also have another thermometer on the cool side just above the substrate level.
The hydrofarm thermostat from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Hydrofarm-MTPR...0858892&sr=8-1 is inexpensive but will get the job done.

Yes, I checked the hot spot and put the thermometer directy above the class and the reading is 100 :S:S
I will go to the pet store near me to check if they have any so I can buy quickly..
There are any temporary solutions till I order the one from Amazon?!
Thank very much for the help..

Re: Temp Problem,,
you could use a dimmer for the time being. They cost about $10 and can be found at the home depot or lowes. Make sure you get a dimmer that you can plug the UTH directly into. If you go to the store you can ask for a plug in dimmer something. Hopefully someone can help you find them.
