Should i turn off the UTH ?

Summer has come and malta's tempreture has risen up to about 33 Degrees celcius, and it will rise more in the coming weeks. Should i turn off the UTH now? and what can i do to give my snake a cool side for the summer ? or is it fine if the snake stays in the same tempreture for the 3months of summer?

Are you running a thermostat? The thermostat will automatically adjust your UTH, even turning it off if necessary. If you aren't running a t-stat, I would ASAP.

If its still too warm you could run a fan or portable A/C unit to cool off the area. With a fan, you might want to watched for decreased humidity with more circulating air, so just be mindful of that.

Never let the temperatures on the cool side of the cage exceed 90F, as this may harm your snake.

You absolutely should be using a thermostat to control a heat pad.

Re: Should i turn off the UTH ?

yes i have a thermostat, but its useless in this case because the room tempreture its 33C and it will get hotter here so the UTH will always be off anyways, too much heat in malta during summer. The problem is that all The vivarium will be 33 or more, the maximum tempreture that it gets in malta is 40Degrees Celcius, i currently don't afford and aircondition but im gonna install one soon, so i will have to let it run the whole day for my snake? cause electricity is very expensive here so other solutions might be better.

Re: Should i turn off the UTH ?

Im probably gonna catch a verbal beating here for saying this but I think that sometimes its okay to think outside the box on reptile husbandry. I turned off my UTH in each enclosure a long time ago because the room that I keep my snakes in can only get down to 85 degrees(f) on a good day. My snakes are doing great. They eat like champs and dont show any signs of stress other than a little retained shed for one (but it was gone with a little soaking). I just monitor them throughout the day and they are fine.

Re: Should i turn off the UTH ?

I have a hognose that goes with a lower temp requirement. I'm on the same boat as you on that one. The UTH usually turns off a lot in the middle of summer because my house temps are at 80-82 during the day. I got a piece of marble slab that I run cold water in (sometimes throw in the fridge if I'm in a hurry) and I put that on the other end of the cage to achieve a gradient.

It's not perfect but it's better than nothing.
