so weve had our raptor leo (achmed) for about a year and a half and he is massive! but he was moping around his tank and sad even though we take him out to run around at least once a day. my husband decided to get a girl leo to keep him company so we now have twitch. however this is where we ran into a problem. Achmed keeps attacking and biting Twitch. so much so that he has bitten through the top bumpy layer on her tail. we have seperated them for the time being but the issue needs to be addressed ASAP. does anyone know how to stop this or at least why hes doing it. i should mention the tank is a 20 long and Achmed has never been agressive and bitten me my husband or the million kids in my family that love to touch and hold him.

Sounds like he is mating or attempting to mate her. They bite the female like that prior to mounting her. She will have bite marks and it looks terrible when you first see it. If she isn't running from him or fighting back this is just normal stuff.
Also are you sure that you don't have 2 males? two males will fight until one is dead. Two females may not ever get along with each other either.

she runs away but before we got her she was with another female. she also like sits back on her back legs. so her feet arent touching the ground almost like shes sitting on her heels. know whats up? or is it just one of those weird leo things?

She is probably not ovulating so she is not going to be receptive to a male. He will continue to harass her. You need to keep them separate or she may get injured.

Also, reptiles do not need friends to keep them company since reptiles lack the ability to feel lonely (they are not social animals at all.) Leopard geckos tend to thrive by themselves. If he was lethargic I would make sure that your temperatures are correct and check for other potential housing or husbandry issues.

If she is running away she is not receptive and will fight him. He will continue to try to mate with her.

Have you quarantined her? How much does she weigh?

Introduce them when she is ovulating, she should be receptive then. Biting is a part of the male's behavior when he is trying to breed a female.

You should keep them separate except for when you introduce them to breed. Let them do the deed, then separate them again.

we did quarantine. not sure on exact weight but she looks a little on the thin side. how do i know when shes ovulating (since were new to this whole breeding thing and im not all that sure on well pretty much everythinhg)?
