Heating during power outages?

I've had my baby male normal for about 2 weeks now (my first ball) and my only complaint is that since he's in my room, I have to keep my room at 80 degrees. Oh well.

Anyways, my area was hit with a wicked thunderstorm yesterday and we lost power for about 2 and a half hours. The temperature in his tank dropped to about 73 degrees for a couple hours (that's okay, isn't it?) and it went right back up when we got power back.

So in case of power outages, what do you guys do to keep up the heat of the tank?

You should consider getting a UPS, uninterruptible power supply. I personally use APC as my vendor of choice but there are many others like it.

Google around for some reviews and find the one that works best for you.

you actually dont "have" to keep your room at 80 as long as you have a good heat supply for him hell be fine, my racks are in my room and the temps are spot on and the room temp is 68.

as for black outs you could use water bottles if the power is out to long

What's you cage like? You shouldn't have to keep your room so hot just to keep your snakes cage ok. My room snake room stays at about 74-75.

Can't help you on your power outage issue. I pretty much only loose power in the summer and down here in FL I definitely don't have to worry about the snakes getting too cold. Unless your power is out for more than a day or 2 at a time I would not really worry too much about it except maybe in the winter.

Heatpacks designed for snakes. I cant seem to find them on RBI's site even though I know they used to be on there. They're useful in a pinch and may be necessary when shipping.

When we lost power earlier in the year here in New Hampshire, I went to a Rite-Aid Pharmacy and picked up some hand warmer pads and stuck them to the bottom of the tanks & tubs and piled a good amount of aspen. Worked great.

They were good for 8 hours or so, but I got home around the 6 hour mark and the heaters were dead! Poor little guys were freezing. I ended up getting my hands on a little indoor heater that connects to those little propane grills. It is called the " Mr. Buddy ", pick one up sometime.

Short power outages i use indoor/outdoor propane heater to keep room mid 70s. Long term i take out the generator.

Summer months i never worry as room stays 80 even with AC on. Winter is only time to worry
