How to get rid of bleach smell?

Hey everyone,

I did my first total cleaning of my BP's tank today. I dont have any of that Chlorohexadine stuff yet so I researched on here and found that using 1 part bleach to 30 parts water would be fine. I soaked the hides for a little and completely rinsed them with hot water (a bunch of times even) but I can't seem to get the bleach smell out even though I didnt use a lot of bleach.

I have a very sensitive nose but I figure if I can smell it my ball can REALLY smell it. How can I get the smell out? I have one backup hide he is using now but I'd like to get his normal hot and cold side hides in ASAP.

What are your hides made out of? I use plastic hides and rocks and just put them in the dishwasher which is equally capable of disinfecting. For the wood logs and climbs I just bake them at 350 degrees for 20 min.

I am by no means an expert but I use simple soap and water to clean my BP's enclosure. I just use enough soap to get a bit of bubbles, wash it with a washcloth that is dedicated for use with the snake's various hides/bowls, then run warm water over it. When it comes to the tank itself, I have a glass aquarium so I use Windex then rinse with warm water.

Perhaps take whatever you washed with bleach and let it soak (if it is soakable) in a warm water/soap solution, then wash them clean with a washcloth and rinse them. See if the bleach smell is gone then.

I have two hides that are these exo terra caves that are made out of some resin type material. Hope they are dishwasher safe because they are in there right now ...hoping that will get the smell out.

Thanks! I did try to soak them in hot water and soap...still smelled funny. I'm thinking maybe the bleach wasnt a good idea. I can just buy two new ones if I cant get the smell out. Guess I learned my lesson!

I have an exo terra water bowl and it hold up just fine. But should anything go wrong, I take no responsibility lol. But I do not think you should have any problems.

Just got them out of the dishwasher and they look good. They did lighten up a bit, probably just washed some of the coloring off. But no more bleach smell. Thanks!
