First time breeder, what to get?

    Hi,
This is my first post. I love this site and have learned a lot. A little about me. I've breed boas and crested geckos. Now I would like to try breeding some balls. I've done a lot of research into what I like. I really like pieds and spiders. I have the opportunity to buy a pair of het pieds, or a spider-pastel pair. They are both $350 (right in my price range!) Which one should I go with? If you recommend the spider-pastel pair which one would you get as male and female? Thanks for any and all advice.

Well, I am personally more of a piebald fan. Also piebalds will hold their value longer, as where bumble bees are coming down fairly fast. However, in the end, it is all about what you like more.
    Ball Pythons:
    0.1.0 Bumble Bee- Schnapps
    0.1.0 Pinstripe- Penny
    0.1.0 Super Cinnamon- Cleo
    0.1.0 Albino- Daiquiri
    0.1.0 Low White Piebald- Hershey
    1.0.0 Low White Piebald- Reese
    1.0.0 Paradox Super Cinnamon- Dash
    1.0.0 100% Het. Albino- Jester
    1.0.0 50% Het. Albino Jake

I like neither that much, lol, and pieds have almost dropped to the price of a bumblebee.
You should get what makes you smile when you look at it.

There are alot of pairs that you could get in that price range and lots of potentially nice morph combos, but again you want to be breeding animals you like to look at and that make animals that you will be thrilled with.

Black pastel male X pastel female = pewter
het red axanthic X pastel = pastel het red
yellow belly X pastel = pastel yb
fire male X pastel = firefly

    and on and on

Pieds are more valueable but I love spiders and bees! If you want to make more money go with pieds but I would choose whatever you like best then you will enjoy breeding and raising these snakes! Don't forget, they are your pet as well!

Its gonna be what u personally like best.. with a spider and pastel pair you will make a little off each animal more chances to produce morphs... pair of hets you will only end up with 25% chance of pied everything else only 66% hets..... I would start with a male spider and couple of female pastels, and use that to make money towards a pied pair if a het female and pied male......

Re: First time breeder, what to get?

I would go with anything I like. Just buy the couple of snakes you like the most. I you prefer piebalds over bumblebees, go for a couple of hets.

If you are buying a spider and a pastel, it doesn't really matter which one is the female. When you're about to buy a really high end morph, a male would be the smartest choice in my opinion.

Whatever you do, have fun breeding!

Sorry don't want to hijack your post But is a Black Pastel a Primary ball python. Ie. No morphs can be combined to create it?

    Once again sorry
