    severe anxiety

does anyone else suffer from this? i have anxiety so bad i shake all the time...but then again, i've been shaking since i was a child & my parents were never able to find out why.
a couple psychiatrists now want me to see a neurologist to rule out any potential neurological problems. i'm currently taking paroxetine (generic for paxil) & abilify for my manic depression & both of them cause shaking. i swear its just my anxiety & those medications that are causing my shaking, but i guess it wont hurt to see a neurologist anywayz, huh?
i guess i just feel that a visit to a neurology specialist would be for nothing if they tell me there's nothing wrong.
i dont want anything to be wrong with me but i dont like hearing that there's nothing wrong either, lol.
i dont know, what would you do? would you just go to satisfy the referring physicians minds or would you hold off based on your history?
thx to those of you that respond to this.

    Re: severe anxiety

I used to suffer from severe anxiety myself. I was put on several different medications for it. I found counseling to be a of a great help to me when I was going through the anxiety. It really wouldn't hurt for you to be seen by a neurologist just to rule out any possible causes of the shaking. I too used to shake like crazy when I was on certain medications. I worked with my psychiatrist and we were able to stop the medications that were causing this. Good Luck to you in your endeavor to find out what is causing it.

    Re: severe anxiety

i've never had the constant shaking, but i do tend to get very anxious, more anxious in a given situation than a normal person would, it is sometimes accompanied by shaking but not normally. Usually just more panic attack like symptoms (increased heart rate, slight difficulty breathing, some times chest tightening, normal panic symptoms).

I would say try the doctor, but don't get your hopes up. The human body is such a weird, wonderful thing that it stumps doctors a lot more often than people would think (or at least this has ALWAYS been the case with me.. go to the dr for x ailment, never get a diagnosis, treatment or anything. just general things to do.. *sigh* ). Good luck with your testing though, i hope they can figure it out.

See some specialist about the shaking, thats bad news......

A little off topic: Ive never been in your situation, but if I was turning 30 with two kids, I would be more excited than depressed because you have learned and doing you part and passing you knowledge to your kids, which is very important! but like I have stated, Ive never been in your situation nor have problems with anxiety

    Re: severe anxiety

I had it....but after medication and learnign to control it I dont suffer from it now, well not as much anyway. I have gone to the ER a few times because I thought I was having a heart attack, I would get really dizzy sometimes...similar to Vertigo, and sometimes I would shake. But after learning what was causing it I learned to deal with it.
There are MANY causes that set off an anxiety attack and learning to recognize them will help stop alot of them. I wont publicly talk about my issues but I did learn what cuases my attacks and they are greatly reduced because I know the things I am feeling arent what they seem to be or arent nearly as bad as I think.
I havnt had to go the hospital in over a year now, and I am off my meds...there are days I wish I had a pill but I do ok.

dont want anything to be wrong with me but i dont like hearing that there's nothing wrong either, lol.
If you find out all of this is because of the anxiety..wich it really can be, you can use this to help yourself like I did. You can teach yourself to recognize the pre attack symptoms and learn to tell yourself there is nothing wrong.
Some of the symptoms of anxiety are thinking there is something wrong with you, worrying about dying and similar things. When you feel like there is something wrong and anxiety kicks in, it can make that feeling 100x worse and you will start to panic, thats how I ended up in the ER thinking I was having a heart attack.
I am overweight and sometimes have pains because of it, sometimes it would be in my chest just from laying the wrong way or something. But before I learned to control things, I would get a chest pain and then think of my weight, my age, then it would get worse, then I would worry about why its getting worse....wich would make it worse, then I would think, OMG something is wrong here....wich made it worse, by now it really hurts and Im getting really worried, well by that time I would consider the option that I am having a heart attack becuase I am 36 years old, I am overweight....and sure enough, even my arm would start to hurt and I would freak out, sweating, getting really hot, dizzy - feeling of vertigo, and bam....there I am in the ER with wires from EKG or whatever, an IV because Im getting dehydrated, and my blood pressure would be 200+....$600 later they told me Im perfectly fine, the EKG shows my heart is nice and strong, so I would lay there until the IV is gone and suddenly all the pains are gone and I feel great....Ive been through this several times, to the point of being sued by the hospital because I couldnt pay all the bills I was getting.
There are many other things that can set it off, but thats just one.
Now I just tell my brain to shut the hell up and concentrate on other things.

Sometimes it can be very hard to talk about because alot of people I tell that to think I am just wierd or nuts in the head, and dont realize anxiety is a serious issue for some people. Sometimes it truely can be silly little things that set it off, but they arent so silly when you have to live with it every day.

I am also Bipolar wich makes life alot of fun....they say Bipolar, I say its because I am German / Italian / and polish. My loving side is the Italian, my mean streak is the German...Bipolar..YES...my head points north, my feet point south..get over it.
My line is...."Im Italian, German, and Polish....always hungry, always pi**ed off, and it takes 5 of me to change a light bulb".
Needless to say, it dont help with the anxiety issues or at least didnt make dealing with it any easier, especialy when trying to talk about it to someone without wanting to punch them in the face for making stupid comments about my mental state.

I was taking Lexapro 10mg...good stuff

    Re: severe anxiety

    Go see the doctor.

Like you said, it's not like it's going to hurt to go get some qualified opinions.

Two thumbs up for good luck.

    Re: severe anxiety

well i actually just got home yesterday after a 4 night stay in our hospital's psych ward. i admitted myself because i was extrememly overwehelmed & started feeling hopeless like "what's the point of even going on with this anymore?"
i've been suicidal in the past so i know that the hopelessness is where all that starts. i have 2 kids so i wasnt gonna go there again.
anywayz while in the hospital my meds were changed & i learned a couple good coping skills to better be able to manage my stress before it escalates.
doesnt help that my fiancee is being a stubborn a** about his diet & the fact that he needs to excercise. he's over 300 lbs & is 6' 2". he's looking at diabetes or a weakened heart due to his being overweight.
he wont apply himself to finding a better job cuz he's afraid to fail but he doesnt see that by nottrying he isfailing us.
[sigh] we love each other yes, but it's gotten down to the fact that we're only still together because i dont want to be a single mom again & he's got nowhere else to go.
believe me i've tried expressing all this to him but he gets defensive and shuts down & stops listening. i just dont know what else to do.
