Pink belly???
Hey guys...need some help.
I noticed that my bp's belly has been getting really pink...I know that they can get pinker when it's getting time for them to shead, and hers usually does, but not until she's starting to get milky colored too. She's not turning milky, and her belly's REALLY pink now (it's been a few days). Any ideas about what could cause this??? Should I be worried?
(PS. I'd love to post some pics to give yall a better idea, but honestly have no idea how to...)
Thanks for the help!

Re: Pink belly???
hi,
pics would be very helpful to maybe identify your "problem" if there is one!
you need to upload the pics at any free pic space, and then link them here.

Re: Pink belly???
Are you using an Under Tank Heater and do you have it on a thermostat?
also, what type of set-up are you using and substrate?
What are your temps and how are you measuring them?

First, you will need to upload your photos to your Gallery on this website or to a photo hosting website like Photobucket, Flickr, etc...
-Open up the Reply window to the thread you want to post them in.
-Open a separate internet browser window and go to the site where your photos are posted.
-Usually below the photo, you will find some URL links or codes. Look for the one that begins with [IMG]. Highlight and copy this entire code then paste it in your "Reply" window.
-Click on the "Preview Post" button to see if the photo becomes visible. If it does click "Submit Reply". If not, then double check that you copied the right code or the entire code. The end of the code should be [/IMG]...
Here is a link to a video tutorial also. Hope this helps...

Re: Pink belly???
Yeah I just switched from a heat rock (which i found out was a terrible idea after i joined this forum) to a uth, though it's not set to a thermostat. I use aspen snake bedding and thermometers inside the tank to monitor temps and humidity. about 85-90 on warm side, 80 on cool side, 40-60% humidity.
To be clearer, it doesn't look like a burn or anything, but it's just pink all the way down her belly.

Re: Pink belly???
Do you measure your temps for the warm side on top of the substrate or under it on the glass? What happens when you use a substrate like aspen, cypress, etc, is it slows the heat dissipation and the heat will build up under it and get way too hot. Most unregulated UTH's will normally run around 100F-105F, but under the sustrate on the glass it can easily hit 115-120F. Even a cheap dimmer or thermostat is better than nothing and a good investment for your snake and your peace of mind.
Since you don't know if it is a burn or shed yet, the best I can say is keep an eye on it. If you notice anything like the color getting darker, blisters, sores, or the scales turning flakey or crusty, then a definite trip to the vet will be needed...
