Give him fresh, clean water from the tap.
It sort of sounds like your ball python is now used to his new environment, and is no longer stressed out and roaming around abnormally.
They aren't usually very active animals.
So, his hanging out in his hide all day is a good sign. It's what he is supposed to be doing. Now you can try offering him food.
