Betadine for snake?

Hi, I just have a really quick question. Is Betadine a good idea to let a snake soak in if it has suffered burns? I have heard that a diluted solution of it and letting them soak for like 10 minutes is very relieving.

But yes, its one of a couple things used to help prevent infection

I don't know if I would "soak" a snake in beta-dine. I would be afraid of them ingesting some of it. What I would do is soak some sort of cloth and try to wrap it around the snake. As impossible as that may sound this is something I would try.

There's nothing wrong with soaking a snake in diluted Betadine

Just place the animal is regular water for the first 10 minutes or so. That way if they want a drink first they can get it.

THEN add your Betadine.

That sounds a little overly cautious... You're not forcing a snake down into it, they're supposed to be soaking. Many people have done diluted betadine soaks without issues, myself included. The water should be shallow and the bath should only last 10-15 minutes. Be sure to supervise because I've read about some snakes drowning.

That's me "overly cautious". I just would not want it to ingest any of it. I guess you could put the snake in the water first. So if it does drink any it will be just water. Then add the beta-dine. I have never had to soak a snake but I did have to soak a few of my Bearded Dragons when I had them.

I never said anything about forcing the snake down into it. I was just thinking about another way.

I haven't really seen a snake start drinking when put in a dish to soak (usually they just sit there or look for a way out), so I kinda assumed if it was going to ingest water it would be in a struggle lol. Understood now, though!

Yeah I am going to grab him behind the head and force him to get in the water and stay there... Just to clarify I am only kidding!

It is funny how things online could get misconstrued so easily. But I see where you are coming from.

If you're unsure as to how to treat the burn, I would take a trip to a vet. Infection is a real concern as well and your vet may have a better alternative to treat the burn.
