omg he refused to eat until my roomate dropped

a mouse on his head? For weeks and weeks he has not eaten but showed interest in food well today we were going to refreeze his mouse and my roomate wanted to try one last time but she dropped it on his head by mistake the snake pulled back but then he struck the mouse coiled around it and let go

what on earth happend why did he not attack until the mouse hit his head?

ALSo if he coils around it does that mean hes going to swallow it? we didnt check we ran out of the room fast so we would not disturb him

you can refreeze it, but because it ha been thawed I would say it has already lost many of its nutrients, I would suggest throwing it out, I have had to deal with this many times but it is what it is. and about the dropping on the head, my snake has done that before when the tail slips out of the tongs, he will strike and coil, but he always eats, I guess it starts as a defensive thing then he just goes for the food. hope this helps

Re: omg he refused to eat until my roomate dropped

I don't recommend re-freezing thawed rats and mice.

It's like the FDA says you cannot refreeze meat in restaurants, and they don't recommend it at home. It's not the best practice.

I would leave it with him, leave the room, and turn the lights off. Come back in an hour and see if he's started to eat it or not.

Pizza is different than frozen meat on many standards.
Especially considering any meat on your pizza is probably so processed, it won't rot right away anyway.

Plus, making decisions regarding your health is entirely your choice, right, and idiocy. Making decisions for the animal's health that relies on your healthy feeding habits is an entirely different matter.

Re: omg he refused to eat until my roomate dropped

If the snake has shown interest in eating for weeks and weeks, but refuses FT, I suggest you break down and give the snake a live mouse.

You are probably going to need to use some tricks to get it to eat FT. Some snakes do not recognize FT rodents as food items--so, as far as he's concerned, you're not offering him food at all, just some weird stinky thing.

    Hi,

    How are you heating it?

Did you ever try the hairdrier trick we recommended?

How many times has he eaten for you - just that first week or more?

    Have you been handling him?

Has anything else changed in your setup?
