    Question on Temps..

So I got a nice little thermostat a few weeks ago, its been working great on keeping my temps nice. Last night, my lovely and enchanting cat, knocked the thermostat off the top of the rack, and broke it..that will teach me not to secure it.. *sigh* Been a bad last two weeks lol - had two flat tires, and had to have some plumbing work done so im strapped for cash for the next few weeks.

So now im stuck with heat pads with no control over them. My snake room is a small 10x11 room that gets very warm..Right now its cool out and the dang things are still hitting 104. The snakes are staying off the hot side of the tanks right now. Im worried about these pads, because when this room heats up, ive seen those pads spike to 110+. Any suggestions how to handle the pads for the next few weeks?

With the pads off on a hot day im hitting 87ish in the tanks - but no true "belly" heat.

Run to Home Depot and pick up a rheostat (lamp dimmer) like this one. That should control the temps reasonably well until you get replace the thermostat. Just keep in mind that the rheostat will allow the heat pads to fluctuate as the room temps change. If the room has wide temperature swings, you will have to adjust the rheostat often.

87 isn't bad. That's the ambient temperature of the termite mounds, so I think they'll do fine at that temp until you get a thermostat. I've read that "most experienced and revered reptile vet on the east coast", whatever-his-name-is, keeps his hot spot at 86.

thanks, will pick two of those up tonight! =]

My temps do change a lot. We are in ohio and in the day you can get up into the 90s and then it cool down into the 60s at night. Room temp will change anywhere from mid 80s to 75ish at night.

Lol, this region's weather. I used to live in Troy, right above the interstate. Cool little town.
