AMISH vs THE ELEVATOR
Wrong on soooo many levels.........But funny none the less
An Amish boy and his father were in a mall.
They were amazed by almost everything they saw, but especially by two shiny,
silver walls that could move apart and then slide back together again.
The boy asked, "What is this, Father?"
The father (never having seen an elevator) responded, "Son, I have
never seen anything like this in my life. I don't know what it is."
While the boy and his father were watching with amazement, a fat
old lady in a wheelchair moved up to the moving walls and pressed a
button. The walls opened, and the lady rolled between them into a small
room. The walls closed, and the boy and his father watched the small
circular numbers above the walls light up sequentially.
They continued to watch until it reached the last number, and then
the numbers began to light in the reverse order. Finally the walls opened
up again, and a gorgeous 24-year-old blonde stepped out.
The father said quietly to his son......... ......
"Go get your mother."

Re: AMISH vs THE ELEVATOR
Actually, some Amish sects have embraced computers and the internet as being useful technology. (Technology used by the Amish must be evaluated for its usefulness and ability to actively contribute to a better life--the Amish are very strict in their evaluations, and reject any technology that does not meet their standards. If something can be done more simply, they will use the simpler method--such as using horse-drawn carts, rather than cars. However, the Amish are not centralized, so there are many different sects which you may see using many different levels and types of technology). Amish have been seen driving a horse and buggy equipped with electric signal lights powered by solar panel-charged batteries.
As teens, the Amish go through rumspringa--this is essentially a rite of passage in which they take a year to go out into the non-Amish world to experience life as it is lived by the rest of us. They then make the informed decision of whether to return and remain in the world they grew up in, or to stay in 'our world'. Most of them return to their community. So, they are not actually ignorant of technology. But it was still a funny joke.
The Amish are interesting folks, I would find it hard not to respect them.
