Jeff, it really boils down to whether Sprint has good coverage in your area or not. Very few areas actually have 4G, but you'll still pay for the data access ($10 a month) whether your area has 4G or not.
Droid is what Verizon calls their Android phones, not Sprint - the phone you're referring to is HTC EVO. If it was carried by Verizon, then it would be called a Droid EVO.
You can visit http://www.androidforums.com and read some reviews there - the biggest complaint I've read is battery life - some reporting as little as 4 hours.
