Re: Just had to share my happiness
Congratulations Monica! That's very exciting!
I'm also adopted myself, but I do consider my adoptive mother my "real" mother. When people ask me if I want to find my "real" mother, I tell them I already know who that is - it's the woman who raised me.
My birth mother, on the other hand, does not want contact with me. I don't take it personally, it's not ME that she doesn't want contact with, it's a point in her life that I represent that's too painful for her. She hasn't rejected ME, because she hasn't met ME. She's rejected what I represent.
I do regret that in order to respect her privacy, I cannot reach out to my two sisters who know nothing about me - my birthmom fears that her daughters will reject her if they find out. I never set out to disrupt her life when I searched for her. I am in contact and reunion with her brother (my uncle) and his family - including my five cousins and all of their children.
Enjoy your little sister! I'm so happy for you!

I may have never met my birth mother if it weren't for my other mom. The one that raised me. One day when I was in high school she took me to some woman's house. As we walked up to the door an old woman came out and freaked out saying my name. I was a little freaked out myself because I didn't know this woman. The whole thing was a surprise. It turned out to be my grandmother. She told us where my birth mother lived and that's how I met her. My mom remembered where my grandmother lived and since she never moved in all those years she was still there. Otherwise I may have never found that family. It was a fluke that I found my siblings though. All the adoptions were closed adoptions. My birth mothers family had heard rumors that one of us (my sister Bridgett) had gone to a judge in my city. She started working at the very same place that my birth mothers best friend (Jane) worked. Jane saw the last name on the wall schedule and noticed that this girl looked a lot like the family so she just came out and asked her one day if she knew whether or not she was adopted. My sister said why yes I am. Jane then told her well I know where your sister and mother are. Can you believe the luck on that one? Bridgett had actually been adopted by a lawyer. The very lawyer that arranged all the adoptions. Knowing that he would not tell her anything, she simply went through his old file room at their house and found the name of the family that our other brother and sister went to. Prior to this she had no idea that there were more of us. A little internet searching and we were all together.
When I met my birth mother she shocked me by having a tiny little metal key chain locket on her purse. It was old and wore out. It had a picture of me when I was 2 in it. She had kept it all my life. My adoption by my dad wasn't final until I was 2 so she was still seeing me at that time. I was touched and knew that she actually was affected by giving all of us up and was happy that I had been allowed to find her.
This is the only picture I have of all of us together. The woman in the bed is our birth mother. The little girl is my little sister Megan. When this picture was taken was the last time I saw her. Then our sister Sara, me and our sister Bridgett. I don't have a picture of our brother Joe. We only met him once and he wasn't eager to really continue a relationship with us. I think he held it against our mother for giving all of us up as babies/toddlers.

Re: Just had to share my happiness
That's awesome Monica, congratulations! I have a half-sister that's younger than me, and she doesn't know anything about me. I've tried reaching out to our father (Who has her) but he won't return any contact. She's 17, I guess when she's 18 I'll probly push to contact her instead of our dad.
It's heart breaking to know you have a sibling that doesn't know anything about you. I'm glad to hear there's hope though Thanks for posting this!

That is great. I love to hear how brothers, sisters, moms, and dads find each other after years and years. I wish you good luck.
