Where should I buy (first time herper)?

About three months ago I got the snake craze. I started out wanting to buy a corn snake just because everyone kept telling me they were easier and more active and made better beginner snakes. Ultimately my research led me to this forum though and the more I read about ball pythons, the more I realized that I really wanted to own a ball.

So, I just got home from my dorm (tonight!) and I am home for the summer and I am extremely antsy to buy my snake.

Where do you guys think I should buy one from? I was thinking a breeder and would have to have it shipped. But near the end of June there is going to be an expo/reptile show in San Diego and I was thinking of maybe picking one up there. Is that a good idea? Would I get a bigger bang for my buck there?

    I'd appreciate any/all input! Thanks!

Well, by the time that expo happens there will be a lot more available, as it's still hatching/laying season, though some are still breeding. And you'll get to see them in person, and prices are lower at expos. I'd make sure to do as much shopping around and get lots of price comparisons before the expo, just in case.

I hope you can take the thing back to college or at least have someone at home who will care for it properly.

Okay, thanks. Yes they were actually allowed in my dorm and even in the apartment I'll be living in next year (after I put down the animal deposit) it's just that I didn't want to purchase a snake and get the enclosure together etc since it was so close to the end of the year and finals.

    !!

I would also suggest getting one at the expo. You will have a much wider selection and you might even be able to find a cool affordable morph

Just make sure you have everything setup in advance as this is what most new owners have a lot of problems with. There are tons of great setup stickies here that can get you started. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!

The expo would be a very good place to get your snake. Another possibility is to look for any specialty reptile shops in your area. Obviously every store is different, and some aren't exactly up to par in my opinion...but every once in awhile you find one that has amazingly healthy, and unique animals.

    Welcome as well
