    Calcium with or without D3?

I just got my first 5 leopard geckos, ordered them today I have been doing a lot of research about them but everywhere I go gives me something different on this particular subject.... Half of the websites say to use calcium with D3 mixed with a multivitamin and leave that in a dish at all times. The other half just say to leave pure calcium with NO D3 (half of those say with a multivitamin and half dont say anything about a multivitamin).

So what is wrong with the D3? I know that it helps them absorb the calcium, but why do some say that you shouldnt use it except for once a month and others say leave it in the dish at all times?

Re: Calcium with or without D3?

The biggest debate comes down to the fact that D3 is a fat soluble vitamin. This means (in humans) too much is hazordos for livers and other vital organs. How much is to much is debateable, and how toxic D3 is to Leos is another very grey area. I personaly prefer not to risk it and choose to use pure calcium in the dish for my Leo to get when ever it needs some. And dust the crickets with calcium with D3. It is said that they eat thier substrate in an attempt to raise thier calcium level thus providing a dish with calcium should prevent inpaction, and keep them in overall better health.

Thats the info, the choice is up to you on what you decide.

I leave a milk cap full of calcium without d3 in the tank at all times. I dust my feeders with calcium with d3.
