For these I used a Nikon D40, Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 lens, SB-400 flash, Nikon remote. For the actual set up. I put a piece of poster board in one of my dining room chairs so that it curved from the back onto the seat. Then used a tripod to take the pictures. Flash was bounced at 90º, I was probably about ~2.5-3 ft away from the snakes. I like to use the remote because that way I can try to corral/pose the snake and then quickly get a pic before they move too much, as opposed to having to get back to the camera before they move.

I'm no pro, and I'm sure there are better set ups than this, but its quick, cheap, and easy to do. One of the things that's really helped me is a tripod and remote. For pictures like this, I don't know how I got by without them.
Nice. Sounds simple enough. I love when everyday household items come into play, like a chair. I do have a tripod and the remote release, I'll just have to try to get some varying shades from black to white and experiment. The remote is a godsend.

Anyway thanks, I didn't mean to turn this into a "how to" thread, I'll keep it to private message if I have anymore questions.
