Help! My son is afraid of the dark :(

I have a bp that lives in my sons room. My son has a lamp on his bedside table that he used to turn on at night but hasn't been able to since we got the snake. I am wondering if there are lightbulbs that I can put in his lamp that won't bother the snake. Today at Target I saw some red/black/blue bulbs but I'm not sure if those work the same as the night time heating lamps or if I need to buy something special.

A red bulb should work fine.

I suggest a blue bulb, actually--it won't disturb the snake, and it's a lot more restful for humans to sleep with than a red light. (Red is a color that increases heart rate and alertness in humans).

Re: Help! My son is afraid of the dark :(

I used to get night terrors when I was a tween/young teen, and had a lamp with a blue bulb, so I know it works.
(at some point I realized I was the scariest thing in the dark, and it no longer bothered me, lol).

hehe He is 6 and actually isn't really afraid of the dark too much. He just got used to sleeping with a lamp on and while he's been doing good knowing that the snake needs dark, I like him to be able to reach over and turn on a light if he needs to He's super excited to have a ball python, someone came to his school and showed hers off so he's been asking for one ever since. And after doing much research we decided to get one I'm not sure if we have a male of female, but my son named it Steve, after the Crocodile Hunter lol

blue bulb, I had them in a lamp before because I thought that they would look cool but they are very dim and are actually relaxing.

i'm really glad that ball pythons are even reaching 6 year old kids...That shows how docile ball pythons are.
