More noob questions
Okay, so I know everyone tells me not to worry about when my girl goes to the bathroom and what not, but today I noticed something out of the ordinary. First off she went A LOT today. Between liquid and solid, it was way more then normal. And then I noticed some solid mixed with a brownish yellowish clear liquid. There was some before I left for work, and a little when I came home. I'm not worried about that fact she's going so much due to the fact she went yesterday what seemed to be a rather large solid. What I'm worried about is the fact of the solid mixed with the liquid. It didn't look like anything was in it, and it wasn't diarrhea. Should I be concerned by this, or just push it to the back of my mind and keep an eye out incase it worsens?
Sorry that I posted this, I really haven't been worried about when she uses the bathroom until I saw what I saw today.
Also, every once in a while, she likes to roam the tank during the day. She's in a 20 gal. glass tank. 3/4 of it is covered. Cool side is 85. Warm side 93. Humidity anywhere from 55-60%. Two identical hides on each side, along with a little decore. So it seems to me that the set up is good for her. And by wondering every once in a while, I mean like once or twice a month (with the same set up). Should this also raise alarm for me? or should I not be to worried about it?
I feed her live fuzzy rats (which are closely monitored), and the rats come from a self breeder. Not a pet store, so I assume they don't have any thing wrong with them. Last week I had to give her a larger fuzzy mouse because they had no rats that day. Would that happen to effect anything?
Sorry about all the question's, I'm just a little worried about what's going on. When I brought her to the vet back in April, she was 100% healthy, inside and out. If someone could please answer my questions that would be great. Like I said, I am a little worried about what's going on.

Re: More noob questions
I would definitely not be worried about it. Ball pythons process their food really slowly and this kind of thing is really quite common. Your husbandry sounds spot-on. I highly doubt that switching the rat for the mouse had anything to do with it, other than maybe putting a little more pressure on her system to 'move things along'. It's good that you're keeping such an attentive eye on her though, it shows that you're concerned for her well-being. No worries, it sounds like she's fine. :-)

Re: More noob questions
I'm not understanding what does the solid look like? It sounds to me that your snake is urinating. And occasionally they will urinate and defecate at the same time.
As for the occasional daytime roaming, it's no problem. They may come out for a few minutes if they are changing locations to thermoregulate...

Re: More noob questions
Sounds to me like you and your snake are totally fine!! It was a little weird for me the first time I saw that too but it is normal. Sometimes they just pee and pass a urate. Other times they pee, poo and pass a urate. And yes sometimes you wonder how that poo actually came out of that little snake. Sometimes when they poo or have poo near there that hasn't passed it will have some brown mixed in the urine. Totally normal. Hope that all made sense. But I do remember the first time I saw that and thought...OMG....is it blood....is something wrong . But you guys are just fine.

Re: More noob questions
Lol sorry I just think it is too funny when new owners are so concerned with their snakes poo. It is a valid concern but hey, it is just poo.
When ball pythons get older and bigger, their poo and pee scales as well. Most of my snakes wait until one precise day when I least expect it and just soil the entire tub. It is nasty poo soup...

Re: More noob questions
Haha. I'm sure everyone finds it funny, but I worry about some of the smallest things. ^^
Any who, today, while handeling my snake I noticed a little difference in color on her under belly. Here's a photo to show you.

It's about half way down on the left. It's the only spot on her stomach that looks like that, and it's rather small, I almost didn't see it. It looks almost as if it could of been a small burn, but is now healed. Should I do anything for it, or just let things be?
I'd greatly appreciate any advice on it.

Re: More noob questions
just keep it clean and make sure it doesn't start to spread or anything. Should be fine and heal up with the next shed.

Re: More noob questions
Okay thanks. I'll make sure to keep an eye on it. If it does begin to spread, what should I do?
Also, would you recommend any ointment to put on it, or not worry about it due to it being on her belly?

If it begins to spread then you can start using neosporin or polysporin without pain reliever. Just keep the cage nice and clean and it should clear up.
I wouldn't worry about putting any ointment on it unless it didn't look like it was healing on its own.

If it is something that starts to spread or gets worse, try using something like Neosporin, Polysporin, or Bacitracin. Make sure none of these has added painkiller in it. Use paper towel as substrate...
