Re: Gross feeding stories?
I've had a rat get degloved by accident... didnt' know they could do that until I looked it up afterwards.
I've had one snake strike a live rat and manage to hit an artery in its neck making it bleed all over and I've had rats have blood coming out their noses/mouths once constricted.

Re: Gross feeding stories?
Mine's not a gross as all of your's, but I found one of my feeding's to be rather icky.
I gave my girl her rat, she striked with in moments of it being in the box with her. As I peered it to make sure she had a nice tight grip, all I could see what the rat's eye's beginning to bulge out of it's head. As I looked in a few moments later, to still make sure she was fine, it looked to the point I seriously thought the rat's eye's where going to explode! It was so gross I couldn't look in anymore.

Re: Gross feeding stories?
When I was still new to feeding f/t rats I thought it would be quicker to thaw the rat in warm water rather then letting it sit in room temp. Well as we all know, some shortcuts just should never (ever) be attempted. I noticed the rat was kinda "mushy". So I go to pop it in with my garbage can, she strikes and all the skin from the scruff of the neck peels back. It was pretty gross.
Worse part was the skin stuck to the tongs. My bp loved it though lol.

Re: Gross feeding stories?
I fed my little yellowbelly a few weeks ago. Probably thawed the little one out too long because when I looked in her tub there were intestines draped over everything. It didn't explode, just the stomach wall must have gave and ripped. When I tried picking the intestines up, I forgot it was still attached and kept coming out of the rat pup. She still ate it, but it was close to making me gag. Especially when I had to pull the intestines out and cut them off, then watch her eat it like saghetti. Don't want to see that again, that's for sure.
Another was my larger female squeezed an ASF so hard that it's eye popped out of the socket, but she ate it so there was no clean up.
Also had some strike so hard that I'm left with rat skin on the hemostats.

Re: Gross feeding stories?
Well I only had a couple of experiences with F/T before we made the switch and never really a "feeding" incident. However it was probably my second attempt at thawing one out. I thought...hmmmmm... ..I live in AZ...its warm out there. Im going to thaw it out on the car. So me and my brilliant thinking put the mouse...in the baggie on the back of the black car. I went out and checked it one time and it still could warm up a bit more. When I went to check it the next time....it had exploded. UGH.... I think that was one of the last times attempting to feed F/T. Just can't seem to shake that mushy feeling and the look of that bag out of my head. ... ...

Ugh. I probably shouldn't have checked this thread so soon after breakfast.

Wait till they kill the rat start to eat it and the hide it under their paper and lay on top of it. You look in there and there a happy snake sitting on the heat spot..Leave to go on vacation the next day.. come back and the smell is undeniable.. then you start the hunt..

Re: Gross feeding stories?
i dont have a gross story, but i have a funny one!.
so I put my snake,Boo, in a 10 gallon when i feed her. I read that this makes it less likely shell bite in her normal cage thinkin my hand is food, cus shell be associating the other tank as feeding place. Boo is a baby btw.
So last night I was feedin her a f/t "hopper" mouse.
she is a really good eater she starts showin interest in the mouse before i even have it halfway into the tank.
Anyhow. I also have 2 cats, a 2 yr old and a 7month old kitten...
The kitten is VERY interested in the snake. Sat there next to us and watched Boo eat. as Boo was finishin up i went to wash my hands..I had touched the mouse so I was really anxious to wash up.
I come back and the kitten is INSIDE the tank. layin there next to Boo.
Boo is just chillin, hasnt even really noticed the cat yet.
LOL!!!! I quickly scooped up Boo and put her back in her home. But it was sooooo cute....soo funny...and scary at the same time. I will have to wash my hands AFTER i put Boo back from now on.
